Answering the Call for Education

The importance of basic education lies at the very heart of American Baptist values. Its impact on the lives of people around the world cannot be overestimated. The ability to read helps families come to know the message of the Bible and gives them the opportunity to freely choose a personal relationship with Christ. The opportunity to attend school means reduced child labor, improved health and economic empowerment. Basic education and a solid understanding of Christianity provide tools for leadership in church and community life.

Education is a significant priority for IM with an investment of $1.5 million for 2011-2012.  Twenty-two long-term missionaries and 185 volunteers and short-term missionaries focused on elementary, secondary, and adult education. In 2013, 22 long-term missionaries are serving, with $1.35 million budgeted for their ministry.
