The formation of what is today known as American Baptist International Ministries began on this continent in 1814, with the appointment of Adoniram and Ann Judson as missionaries to Burma (today known as Myanmar). These former Congregationalists left for India in 1812, only to embrace believer's baptism by immersion during the journey over the ocean. Baptized by British Baptist missionaries upon their arrival, they moved to Burma in 1813.
