GoalThe goal of this project is to fund a scholarship endowment for students pursing a theological degree at the Sabah Theological Seminary in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $23,000 annual to provide ongoing funding for an endowment that provides for scholarships for students pursing a theological degree (Bachelor of Theology, Master of Divinity, etc.), and operational funds at Sabah Theological Seminary in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
DescriptionSabah Theological Seminary is located in an impoverished area (16% live on less than $2 a day) and many of its students come from the interior of Sabah (where 40% live on less than $2 a day). Even though the school tries its best to keep tuition low, most students must rely on the support of their local church to cover their tuition. This endowment fund will allow for three to five students, depending on their degree program, to attend STS on full scholarship. It could also offset some of the operational costs that the school incurs annually. Using an endowment fund insures that the investments from donors will remain as the principal. The interest earned will provide scholarships on a yearly basis. The principal will continue to generate funds for scholarships in perpetuity. It is an excellent way of wisely stewarding the resources entrusted to us. The long-term impact of this project will spread far and wide. The desire is to raise $23,000 initially and more than $115,000 over the next ten years. The outcome is that more students will be able to attend, including those who live in poverty. The graduates will go on to serve their local churches and disciple others in their spiritual formation, their knowledge of God’s word will expand and they will learn how to properly apply it, their love for Jesus will deepen and they will seek to see his kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. The seeds that the graduates sow, the believers that they help to nurture and the souls they reach will have an eternal impact in bringing his kingdom to bear. STS currently has 400 full-time students enrolled.
Suggested GiftsGifts of any size are welcomed and appreciated! $10,000 will provide for nearly half of the startup costs necessary to activate the endowment. With an average return on investment of $5% annually, a $10,000 gift will generate $500 in scholarship funds. $1,000 will cover the tuition for one student seeking a Bachelor’s Degree for one year. $1,250 will cover the tuition for one student seeking a Master’s Degree for one year.
