Pray for Debbie and Keith Myers, endorsed by IM to serve in Central Mexico

October 12, 2011

Debbie and Keith are newly endorsed missionaries to serve in Central, Mexico.  They will partner with the Council of Rural Indigenous Evangelicals of Mexico, AR (CICEM) to provide pastoral accompaniment to the indigenous churches.  This training consists of training pastors, church leaders, youth leaders and teachers for the children.  They will travel to six different areas outside of Puebla to serve and empower the people.

Debbie writes: It's a mystery how God speaks to us.  I'm a tangible person, so God speaks to me in tangible ways.  A couple of years ago I spoke at a church for Women's Sunday.   I took my daughter, Baillie, with me to sing, because God has blessed her with a beautiful voice.  As we walked into the church I was led by the Holy Spirit to sit behind a certain young women near the front of the church.  Immediately, I started praying for her, because I felt that she was caring a heavy burden.  Later on I learned that she was pregnant and was having trouble with the pregnancy. She had not been able to carry her previous pregnancies to full term.

That Sunday, I was also thanking the church for helping Keith and I financially to be able to travel to Bolivia on a mission trip.  I told the congregation of stories about what God is doing in Bolivia.  I said that I would like to take toothbrushes to a certain community when we went back, because on our previous visit they did not have running water, but they were going to have water by the time we arrived.  Looking back, that statement was Holy Spirit led.

A few months went by and we as a family were planning another mission trip to Bolivia. … That same week … there was a message on our answering machine.   It was the same woman that I had prayed for back in the fall.  The excitement in her voice was apparent.  The first thing that she told us was about her healthy baby boy and how after he was born they had a baby shower.  She remembered what I had said that Women's Sunday about wanting to take toothbrushes to the children of Bolivia.  She asked everyone that came to the baby shower to bring a toothbrush for the children.  Because of her request, she had over 50 toothbrushes.  I was so overwhelmed with God's love at that moment!   I praised Him, thanked Him and apologized to Him. He let me know that He had everything under control.   When given a chance to speak, I let everyone know about the toothbrushes.  We had over 400 toothbrushes that we took to Bolivia with us.  ABW groups, AB GIRLS groups and churches were all sending toothbrushes.   …

When I start to doubt, whine or complain, God reminds me to brush my teeth!   I'm so thankful that my God is real and wants a relationship with me.   This past Sunday we were singing "How great thou art" in church and I was holding the little boy that I had the privilege of praying for while he was in his momma's belly.   What a humbling experience.

We have just started the next part of our journey in becoming missionaries to Central Mexico.  When I start to fret about raising necessary missionary funds or general life situations, God is faithful to say, "Deb, go brush your teeth".

  • Pray for Debbie and Keith and their children as they step out in faith to serve as missionaries in Mexico.
  • Pray for provision of what is needed for them to move from endorsed missionaries to commissioned and sent missionaries.
