Pray for Patti and Tim Long, training leaders and helping educate children with special needs in Baja, Mexico,

May 23, 2012

Tim and Patti minister in leadership training by the Baja Baptist Convention, Dios Con Nosotros (God With Us). They help in the acculturation process of the many people who relocate to the Baja Peninsula of Mexico from other areas in Mexico.

They write: The Monte Horeb Grade School in Tijuana continues to be a beacon of hope in difficult times. With over 100 children ready to finish the school year and some 30 of them being children with special needs, the school has become a unique place where those with disabilities are welcomed, loved and made an integral part of the whole school community. Already 5 new students with special needs have enrolled for classes come August. How thankful we are for the support of so many who give scholarships through the STEP program of International Ministries. These scholarships undergird the program and assure that basic expenses can be met.

There is much good news coming out of Mexicali as well. With more full and part time students than in the past 15 years, the Baptist Seminary is a busy place. Stephen and Sheila Heneise, former IM missionaries in Nicaragua and Chile, are teachers in residence for the semester at the Seminary, having been given a sabbatical from their pastoral responsibilities in Blue Hill, Maine; great to hear such good reports from them and from the Seminary community, as they humbly live and share more of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Graduation is set for June 23rd when three students, Moisés, Cristina, and Jesús will graduate from the four year program.

And finally, it is a presidential election year in Mexico as well as in the United States. Come July, there will be a new president-elect and most likely one from a different party than has governed the last 12 years. We all would appreciate your prayers during this transition time in Mexican history.
