Clean Water in Thailand & Burma

This project seeks to raise $5000 to provide funds to cap one spring and to purchase PVC pipe to gravity- feed fresh mountain water to about 300-400 people.

Goal: $25,000 Annually

Water Supply System for one village = $5000

About this Mission Project

An estimated 650,000 “hill tribes” people, in six ethnic groups, live in the mountainous border between northern Thailand and Burma.   Many people have moved to this region to escape ethnic cleansing.  Most speak their own languages and have distinct cultural practices.

Many hill tribes people can’t claim Thai citizenship and their children are not entitled to an education, nor can they own the land they farm. Often between 300-400 people live in one village hamlet, and work to cultivate hillside vegetables, to grow rice, and raise a pig or a few chickens.

Clean water is a daily challenge in many villages.  Women and girls carry water from mountain streams, but there is seldom enough for drinking, cooking, washing, cleaning and growing food.  To improve overall health, the village needs fresh and plentiful water.

Clean Water

Gravity-fed systems that pipe water from mountain streams into villages are cost-effective and sustainable, and villagers are eager to provide the physical labor required.

American Baptist missionary, Mike Mann, offers know-how and management for capping springs, burying PVC pipe into the hillside, and building cement water holding tanks.  The cost to purchase a water supply system for an entire village is $5,000

Pray with Mike and Becky Mann and their partners in Thailand, as they assist villagers in a holistic and sustainable way to establish and improve village water supply systems.
