Benjamin Chan shares the good new that former American Baptist International Ministries missionary Dr. John Gravley has been appointed the Vice President for Institutional Advancement of the Central Baptist Theological Seminary. The Principal of the seminary Dr. Molly Marshall praised John of his energy and creative ideas towards the school’s Cultivating Excellence capital campaign. In the announcement of Dr. Gravley’s new responsibility, Dr. Molly said, “Dr. Gravley has worked with Central since 2006, first in a part-time role as Director of International Programs. While serving in this position, he made significant contacts for the seminary in Hong Kong and garnered a major gift. He also was the liaison with International Ministries as Central hosted the World Mission Conference in November 2007. In January 2008, he began serving as Executive Director of Stewardship. His first responsibility was to organize and lead a group of board members and donors on the Encounter Asia trip, which included time in Hong Kong, Myanmar, and China. His experience and vision for global Christianity is helping shape Central’s new partnerships in Southeast Asia.”
John and his wife Janine served in Hong Kong promoting International Ministries’ partnership with Swatow Baptist churches and other Christian organizations. Under John’s leadership, the American Baptist social services were streamlined and consolidated under American Baptist Mission Hong Kong Swatow Baptist Church Community Service Association in 2005. This marks a milestone transition of ministry to the national leadership in Hong Kong.
