Helping with Teams to the South of Thailand

Dear Friends:

This really is our first occasion to send out our group prayer letter with a bit of news. We wanted to do this on a more regular basis so that many of you should know how to pray for us here in Chiang Rai, Thailand. We have a support team in Greensburg, Pa. and a few others in Ohio who have agreed to pray for us. For all others who would receive this email we welcome your support and interest in what God is doing among the Akha people of northern Thailand. If you would prefer not to receive this letter please let me know and I will delete your name.

For this mailing, I wanted to tell you about our family's travels to the south of Thailand for a short term relief project with a displacement camp from the tsunami wave that hit the Phuket area on December 26. Ruth has left already this past Thursday and Rachel left today with a group from our little international school. (about 40 students)

A government official from the Thai government has asked our school (The Family Learning Center) if they would help with assistance in one of the 18 displacement camps for people who were affected by the tidal wave this past December. The camp has 110 families, 70 of which are Sea Gypsies. This camp is located about 2 hours north of Phuket along the coast and has been overlooked by others. These folks were largely fisherman, and built their homes along the coast line. The children have been traumatized by the event. This is an opportunity for teams of young people, from our school to build relationships with these young people, and for other adults to create some programming that would be uplifting and healing. We will be going over the next month to the south of Thailand by rotating teams of young people with adults.

I ask for your prayers as the Fox family and teams from our school travel to the south of Thailand and that we might properly minister to the young people and adults of this area.

If you wanted to look at a website that has been created to help in these efforts it is www.welovethailand.in.th If that does not work go to Google and type in-- we love Thailand-- and it should come up.

You should know that our partner in this endeavor is the Church of Christ in Thailand. (this is not the same as the Church of Christ in the US) Monies from around the world are coming in rapidly and we are waiting to see what is needed for the long term. The emergency help is now in place but much more organized thinking and planning will be needed for the long term.

Peace and Grace,

Chuck Fox
