Dear Partners in Ministry:
We have been here just over a month now and have fallen into a routine. We are becoming more and more familiar with our new areas and are neighbors are staring less. They are still somewhat entertained by our presence and morning trips to the market cause much amusement and entertainment.I suspect they are disappointed on the days I don't go.
We finally worked through all our boxes and 95 % of our stuff has a home.We are going away for meetings for four days next week and while we are away a builder is coming in to extend and deal with the bathroom. Hopefully when we get back it will have a shower recess and shower installed. Good bye to bathing from a bucket. Not too sad about that!
We have a great landlord, Tor, he came in one day last week and extended the roof over our front steps so we can now get to the teaching/kitchen area without getting wet.Tor, his wife Lon, and two boys Ball 11, and Bes 7, live next door.Lon's mother is bedridden and also lives there.Lon needs to be around the house to care for her mother, and when she needs to go out she usually calls in one of the older neighbors to watch her. They are subsistance farmers, farming rice mainly for their own consumption and have a tamarind orchard.
We have become more familiar with our closest city, Nan.Earlier this month we went in to by some tables for teaching. We went to the phone company to put our name down and were told we may get a phone. (our original inquiry we were told No Way!) We asked you to pray about it and went back the following week and were told if we wanted to pay for it then we would have a phone in 2 weeks, it came in two days.We thank you for your prayers and praise God for his provision.
Nan also has a good market where we were able to get some more 'normal' fruit and vegetables. Both trips saw us coming home with a few days worth, but for the last 2 to 3 weeks we have been eating solely from the local market.Mangos are the fruit of the month. We are enjoying them on a daily basis.
We continue teaching. We have about 200 students that come to our home now and are going to schools as well.We consider this to be stage one of our ministry, getting known and accepted in the community, building relationships and making friends. We both have an exercise route in the morning and it gives us opportunity to see students and other folk.We have had some opportunity to share something of our faith with some of our students and neighbors.
We set up two old computers for students to practice their computer skills on.They have proved to be more than popular with high school students coming in and doing their assignments for school on them.
The rice planting is almost finished. A week ago there were still a few paddies that were high and dry and then we had some heavy rains over a few days and they are all ploughed and being planted as I type.Tomorrow should see everyone finished. Some of the rice has been planted for a month or so now and the fields are greening up giving us beautiful views.
Thank you for the many ways you are supporting us in this pioneering ministry.
Yours in Christ,
Larry and Jan
Prayer and Praise points.
Praise God for the provision of a phone.
Praise God that we are feeling quite settled.
Pray that God will work in the hearts of people in this area and that they will be receptive to his love.
