Discussion in the workshop session
Preface: If you read my journal on September 1, you found out that I am sending one entry a day for the first 18 days of the month. Hopefully, this will help to update people about my small part in God’s Movement: Calling folks from all parts of this world to minister in many ways with people in prostitution and victims of human trafficking. If, for any reason, you prefer not to receive these daily journals—but would like to receive the more occasional journals in the future, please contact me through the IM web-site and I’ll put a hold on your e-mail address until after the 18th of September!
I’m invited to do a lot of speaking to groups of many sizes, in many places, for many purposes. After a time of praying about each invitation, I make a decision about whether or not to accept based on how I feel God is leading me through a sense of peace. And often God leads through an excitement about the potential that the meeting might have for the future of what many of us sense as a Movement of God’s Holy Spirit. When I first began working with the New Life Center in Thailand in 1987, I daresay that any of you had ever heard the term “trafficking in persons”. I knew nothing about the issues—until the women started coming to the Center, telling their stories. Then the media started to report that women, children and men were being trafficked—like drugs and weapons—as commodities to be used and abused. That spurred governments to pass legislation and intervene. At the same time, individuals and small groups were feeling powerfully Called to minister to and start projects with the most abused and exploited people on this earth. And that movement has continued to grow and grow and grow.
God called me away from the New Life Center in 2000 because I was needed to be a part of that movement. Some of us who were witnesses to what was happening in those early days and were a part of the beginnings of ministries have been given new tasks by God. We have been commissioned to be spokespersons about the issues—to raise awareness about the plight of women and children trapped in situations of prostitution and trafficking. At the same time, we are asking the question, “Are You being called in some way to minister in Christ’s name to these precious women and children?”
I always pray that my words would be used as a part of God’s Movement to encourage Christians to pray their way into finding their place in the Movement!
Most recently, I was with the Scandinavian Baptist Women’s conference in Denmark. It was a Blessed time of fellowship and friendship. And I pray that the words I was led to share are used so that God’s Love and Compassion would be known to those who are longing for His touch. Please pray with us!
