Dear Partners in Ministry,
Greetings from a rather soggy Ban Luang. Rain seems to be the order of the day and I guess this shouldn't surprise us, as it is the Wet season - even so it can get a little much sometimes. We are grateful however that we have been spared the flooding that some of the other districts in our province have had this month. We have friends who had 2 yards of water through their houses in Nan city. But to be honest right now our valley is beautiful, the rice is green in the fields and the mountains are often capped with clouds.
Our roles as itinerant English teachers continue and we visit a number of local schools on a regular basis and enjoy the contact with students and staff alike.
Larry has slowly but surely been working away at getting the first of the tracts he has been working, on to the printers as always these things seem to entail more than we first anticipated. Firstly our computer programs were not the right ones but our computer was too "old", too "small" and too "slow", to do what the printer wanted. So with the help of a team member in Chiang Mai we were able to get a newer bigger and faster CPU but when it arrived out here it wouldn't work with our monitor. Many phone calls, a few days and a trip to a technical person got that problem fixed only to meet new challenges with new programs. Suffice to say Larry is starting to go gray but it will be a while before he challenges Jan in this area. We are thankful to God that the printer now has all the files and hopefully will soon be able to send us the layout for approval.
We continue to be part of the Ban Sra fellowship and write the lessons for the new believers. This is an important part of our week as we seek to write and present the materials in a way that will encourage the new community of faith to follow Jesus in ways that are culturally appropriate for them.
A neighbor recently said "praise God" after we recounted a story about a potentially fatal accident that had been averted miraculously. We thank God that she recognizes God's existence and power, but are really frustrated that she and others here do not see that He is relevant for them and we really ask for your prayers for a change of heart.
PRAYER AND PRAISE
- Pray for those affected by the recent floods some folk not only suffered damage to their homes but lost their rice and corn crops in the flooding.
- Pray for the finalization of the tracts and that they will touch people's hearts for Jesus. Give thanks for all those who came to our aid in the last couple of weeks.
- Continue to pray for the new faith community in Ban Sra; pray for Muana and Villy as they lead them and for their growth of understanding of who God is and who they are in Him.
- Pray for our friends here in Ban Luang that they will be stirred by the Holy Spirit to turn to God.
- Pray for Larry as he makes a trip to the states later this month to do deputation there.
Thank you again for journeying with us, your support is much appreciated.
Yours in the Good News,
Jan and Larry
