Update on the expulsions of Angolans from Democratic Republic of Congo
The border situation has calmed somewhat, but no one has heard from Mama Nsenga. Our student family is still separated. The latest is that the Congolese border authorities need her student ID card for the Women's School, which hadn't been printed yet for this year when she left; and we don't have a photo to use. The student was able to pick up his son, age almost 5, at the border, and I saw him today for the first time. He's attending preschool. He's glad to be back with Dad, but he misses Mom and little sister!
I'm putting together an article in response to a question somebody asked, about why the expulsions. A few newspapers, and information on the street, give some explanations, but nothing that satisfactorily explains it, let alone justifies it! The Voice of America radio last week reported that tens of thousands of Angolans expelled from Congo are lodged in three refugee camps just inside the border, with very limited access to food and water. And the rains are starting! The UN is there. Even if we could get some money and supplies available, I'm not sure how to insure a safe delivery system to those who need it.
Keep praying! I'll send more info in the next couple of days.
Blessings,
Wendy
