On a recent trip to visit churches I was struck by a rather odd detail. Doors. Not THE Doors (what my son calls an “ancient” rock group). Just regular doors. There seemed to be a lot of them. There were church doors, air plane doors, car doors, front doors, back doors, doors to homes, revolving doors, and, thank God, bathroom doors. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about doors but, I couldn’t help but notice there was one thing in common . . . they were all open.
Symbolically, doors represent new opportunities and open doors are open opportunities. On this trip, it was as if God was saying, “The way is open. The opportunity is before you. So put out your hand and twist, push, pull, or slide the door open. Go in and tell the story of what I am doing and I’ll do the rest.”
Each time I moved through a door it meant a new opportunity to tell the God story of mission in Mexico. This amazing God story is about how the churches in Mexico are growing and how so many lives are being transformed by God’s love. It’s exciting to share that God has opened the way into lives, marriages, homes, families, drug and alcohol rehab centers, schools, and businesses. Through transformed hearts people have even opened doors to changing jealously guarded church traditions and ministries. It is great to tell how most of the churches need bigger places to worship because they are outgrowing or have outgrown their current locations by four or five times. And it is wonderful to share that these churches are starting new churches in other areas.
“These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut and what He shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.” (Revelation 3:8-9)
God has opened the doors. The churches in Baja South Mexico are filling up with new followers of Jesus!
There’s a new double-door in this God story. We’re all talking about it. Before us is a door of double opportunity, and it’s open too. What’s new in this God story is our need to raise support! We are finding that this double-door opens up to a glorious view of new relationships on one side and God’s provision on the other. Our attitude is that needing to raise support represents an open opportunity to grow in relationship with people like you. And that’s good! We consistently find that God has already stirred up hearts to become part of what he is doing in mission. It is as if God has said, “Present the door of opportunity and I’ll do the rest.” The other half of the door is the amazing story of God’s providence . . . also through people like you! We have seen and can testify that God is faithful. Opened together these doors give us another beautiful and often surprising view of what God is doing!
The doors are open! God is doing amazing things in Mexico; Joyce and I are part of that work. If God is stirring your heart, put out your hand and twist, push, pull, or slide the door open and come on in!
“See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.”
WOW! What a VIEW!
