One major challenge here is coming to some "understanding" of the "meaning of suffering".Why should 1,000's of children die of malaria, when the "cures" are potentially available: eliminate the breeding sources of the mosquitoes, and proper medications?

Recently, one twin, newly born to a student pastor's family in August, died of malaria. The baby's parents had observed the elevated temperature, and had begun administering the medication, but quit half way through to "save" the medication for future use. The temperature mounted again, and by the time the parents took the baby to the hospital, even blood transfusions were not enough.

Four nearly 6 months, the school chapel has been unusable because the ceiling, which was literally "falling down," was being replaced. We watched with anticipation as the work crew had just finished the putting in the last board. That was the afternoon of the day the baby died.

The tradition here is that family and friends "spend the night" with the grieving family. Since the student homes are very tiny, with little yard space, the school decided to allow the use of the chapel for the mourners. The bonfire was built outside, for warmth and heating coffee, and singing could be heard throughout the night.

The next morning, all the students were sweeping and preparing the chapel for its inaugural "celebration/use": the funeral.
