Dear Friends:
Sunday the 5th will be a week after the beginning of the Run-Off election for the presidency, and we are VERY THANKFUL to report that we have heard of little violence in any part of the DRCongo.
Here in Kikongo in the interior, the elections went well. While it rained here during the night, in Kinshasa the downpour continued until noon, dramatically reducing the voter turnout.
TODAY a messenger left Kikongo by motorcycle to take the election results of 8 voting centers (for which Kikongo is the hub), to a central data collection site in Bandundu.
A friend in the States sent us a news article which reported that BOTH candidates (Kabila and Bemba) have now pledged publicly to accept the election results, and support the transition process.
This is VERY GOOD NEWS! Continue to pray that these commitments will be honored by them AND their followers, as the official results are announced sometime in the next few weeks.
Your thoughts and prayers are MUCH appreciated.
Shalom,
Virgil and Lynn Nelson
