Nothing Is Impossible

Yesterday I stopped by the post office with a slip that said I had several parcels to pick up.At the window I handed my slip of paper to an aging postal worker with a long gray ponytail down his back. But he had a great smile! He came back to inform me that I had eight boxes in the back and that it would be easier for me to drive around to the loading dock to put them in my vehicle.I thanked him and began to wonder what was in these boxes.I soon discovered that I had eight large rectangular boxes full of blankets.A church in IL had offered to send us blankets for Mexico. We had already received one box last week and I had mistakenly assumed that was all. Silly me!

The post office worker rolled the boxes out on a dolly."Here you are m'am.You can just leave the dolly here when you're done."I stared at his retreating back in shock."Can't you help me?""No m'am, I'm sorry. There are only two of us at this branch and I have to go back inside."Well great, just great.I wanted to run after him and yank his ponytail out of spite.

In case you were wondering where my tall, strong husband was during all of this . . . out of town. And I couldn't wait until he returned because the post office told me they'd ship the boxes back in two more days.I looked at the boxes.I looked at the distance from the HIGH loading dock DOWN to my pick-up truck. This was going to be a challenge! And to make matters more interesting, I was dressed to go to a Bible Study, which meant nice khakis and a Christmas red sweater.I grabbed my jacket out of the car and put it on.At least I could avoid getting the sweater dirty.(My son tells me that I'm allergic to dirt.)

I grabbed the first box—sort of.It was too bulky for me to carry by myself. So I set it down and kind of rolled it to my truck.Praise God for a pick-up truck instead of a VW bug! Then I heaved the box into the back of the truck.I tried to shove it to the end of the bed without getting in the truck. No such luck. So, in my nice clothes, I kind of jumped/leaped/Wonder Woman bounded into the back of the truck. One of my clogs came off and my pants started falling down, but the box got moved. On to box number two.

I managed to cram four boxes in the back of the truck but was unwilling to stack any on top as just three days ago I'd suffered the humiliating experience of boxes blowing out of my truck as I drove up the on ramp on the freeway.Of course, they were empty and my husband was there to rescue me that time, but I had no desire to repeat that experience.Luckily, we have an extended cab and the back seats flip up.I managed to cram the remaining four boxes behind the front seats.

I collapsed in the front seat amazed at my super woman feat.I zipped away to the Bible Study only to discover that it wasn't meeting that day.Yes, I'd gotten dressed up to load boxes at the post office!I went home, changed clothes, and tossed those boxes on our front porch. Xena, Princess Warrior, couldn't have done it better.

Have you ever accomplished something that you didn't think you were capable of?This entire experience made me think of Luke 1:37, "For with God, nothing is impossible."This is what Gabriel said to Mary after he told her she would conceive and bear God's son, Jesus. What's heaving a few boxes compared to that miracle?!With God, we can accomplish so much more than we ever give ourselves credit for.In fact, someone recently told me that if you are in a crisis, and feel totally in control, then what room have you left for God's intervention? When we give God room to partner with us, incredible events unfold.

Which brings me to my next dilemma: how to get all these blankets to Mexico?I don't think our luggage and these boxes will quite fit when we drive back next May!But deep down I'm not too worried.See eight boxes.See Joyce point at eight boxes.See Joyce tell God about eight boxes.See God move eight boxes to Mexico.

For nothing is impossible with God!
