Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde la última vez que les escribí. El tiempo transcurre con múltiples ocupaciones cuando una recién llega a un lugar a iniciar un trabajo.
El año 2002 trajo retos que afrontar. Le damos gracias a Dios por habernos permitido inaugurar las facilidades del Centro Teologico del Caribe en Changuinolae iniciar un pequeño esfuerzo para la capacitacion de personas en el área teologica, pastoral y de educacion cristiana. También le damos gracias a Dios porque hemos podido ser de bendicion a la comunidad que nos rodea con el área de Cántaro que es el brazo de apoyo comunitario del centro.
Como sededel Centro Teologico del Caribe en Limon, Costa Rica hemos tratado de llevar la misma dinámica que ellos en todas las áreas. El apoyo que hemos tenido a través de sus oraciones y de la Ofrenda Misionera Mundial ha hecho posible que éste proyecto enChanguinola, Panamá sea toda una realidad. Es la primera vez que como Bautistas Americanos hacemos presencia aquí. No ha sido fácil y hemos encontrado muchos contratiempospero lo que Dios se propone hacer en un lugar ninguna fuerza del enemigo lo puede impedir. ¡Gloria a su nombre!
Les diré que en el transcurso del año pudimos ofrecer cuatro cursos a nivel universitario, dos talleres de Educacion Cristiana, dos capacitaciones para maestras de Escuela Bíblica, dirigir escuelas bíblicas de vacaciones en tres puntos diferentes, apoyar en el lado costarricense los esfuerzos en Limon y en Sixaola. En éste lugar tuvimos unas serias inundaciones el pasado mes de diciembre que taparon el pueblo y las personas perdieron todas sus pertenencias.
En el área de Changuinola hemos estado trabajando con una comunidad indígena que se llama Bella Vista. Allí hacemos trabajo pastoral, de apoyo como enfermera, con los niñas en sus necesidades escolares y también en construccion y reconstruccion de viviendas pues tuvieron derrumbes y se perdieron varias viviendas. Esa zona es una muy necesitada pues laspersonas no cuentan con energía eléctrica , ni agua potable, sus viviendas son muy frágiles y la desnutricion es espantosa entre las niñas.
Espero que continúen orando y apoyando nuestros esfuerzos en éste nuevo año 2003. La tarea es de todas, unas acá y otras a través de la distancia. Les pido las oraciones para que éste trabajo se siga fortaleciendo.

Theological Center of the Caribbean in Changuinola
Dear Brothers and Sisters and Friends,
It has been a long time since I have written to you. Time passes quickly with so many things to do when a missionary recently arrives at a place to begin their work.
The year 2002 brought many challenges. We thank God for having allowed us the opportunity to open the facilities at the Theological Center of the Caribbean in Changuinola, and to start a small effort for training persons in theological, pastoral and Christian education. Also, we thank God because we have been able to be a blessing to the community that surrounds us in the area of Cántaro, which is the community support arm of the Center.
As the headquarters of the Theological Center of the Caribbean in Limon, Costa Rica has done, we have tried to follow the same dynamic that they have in all areas. The support that we know we have had through your prayers and the World Mission Offering has made this project in Changuinola, Panama possible. This is the first time that as American Baptists we have a presence here. It has not been easy and we have encountered many obstacles but what God proposes to do in this place cannot be stopped by enemy forces. Glory be to His Name!
During the course of this year we have been able to offer four courses at the university level, two workshops in Christian Education, two training classes for Sunday School teachers, hold Sunday Schools in three different places, support the efforts in Limon on the Costa Rican side and in Sixaola. In Sixaola, this past December there were floods that swept through the whole town and people lost all their belongings.
In Changuinola, we have been working with an indigenous community that is called Bella Vista. We have done pastoral work there, and have given medical support. We have helped the children with their school needs as well as doing construction and rebuilding dwellings since several houses collapsed and were lost. This is a very needy area as the persons do not have electricity, nor do they have potable water. There homes are very fragile and the malnutrition is frightening among the children.
I hope that you will continue to pray and support our efforts in 2003. The work is for all to do. There is some here and there are other things can be done from afar. I ask for your prayers so that this work can continue to be strengthened.
