March 2010
Dear Friends,
Today, Monday is international woman's day, and we are taking it very seriously this year.
Rita spent a long time working on a new banner for the women to parade behind. After chapel, all the women and girls paraded from one end of Kikongo and back. They then went back into church for a seminar dealing with four important things for a married woman to know:
-Her behavior in her home.
- How to handle household responsibilities.
- How to use money wisely,
- How to be a good counselor to her husband.
I rode my bicycle to Fatundu on Saturday. I sent the video equipment down river by canoe. There were lots of women's activities at Fatundu too. They wanted to have a video about women's issues, and information about HIV/AIDS.
After I presented the HIV/AIDS videos, I projected the movie: "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". It was a big hit. I talked about how the one woman educated the whole "clan".
It is very hot and the road is very sandy. I departed Fatundu as early as I could so that I could reach Kikongo before the heat of the day. The young men are having to paddle all day long as they bring the fragile equipment upriver.
I will try and attach pictures.
Blessings,
Glen and Rita
