Hurricane Jeanne

Greetings,

After leaving Haiti a week ago, Tropical Storm Jeanne was projected to head right up the Bahamian archipelago and into Southern Florida.Instead, she fizzled out and drifted out to the east for a few days. Then, just when everybody had forgotten about her, she resurrected herself--Lazarus-style--and has come forth once again to wreak terror and havoc on those of us living on small Caribbean islands.

It is now 8:00pm EST in Nassau and we expect Jeanne--now a category 3 hurricane--to begin entering in a few hours.According to the current projection, storm-battered Abaco and Grand Bahama will once again take the brunt of the storm with winds reaching 100+ mph.Nassau, on the other hand, will probably only experience tropical storm strength winds of less than 70mph.But then again, when's the last time we've actually seen a hurricane follow the exact path projected by the meteorologists?Certainly, Jeanne hasn't made a name for herself by being predictable.

We'll let you know how things go, though it may be several days before we can get back on line if the electricity goes out.

In the meantime, you can follow the news on hurricane Jeanne and her mischief in the Bahamas by logging on to:

As usual, we appreciate your prayers.

Greetings,

Thanks for the many notes of encouragement that we have received during the past two days.

As projected, Hurricane Jeanne passed over the northern Bahamian islands of

Abaco and Grand Bahama with winds of 100mph.Both of these islands were severely hit by Hurricane Frances just three weeks ago so it is not yet clear what additional damage, if any, has occurred.

Here in Nassau, we were only minimally affected--just clouds, drizzle, and occasional gusty winds.Indeed, we can say that we often have much worse weather when we're not experiencing a hurricane.Today, everything is back to normal and we're enjoying sunshine and a nice cool breeze.

Please continue to pray for the hurricane relief efforts taking place in the northern Bahamas, Haiti, and elsewhere in the region.

God Bless,

Daniel and Estela
