Readjusting To Their Own Culture

Greetings,

When the first American Baptist missionary Adonirom Judson returned to the United States for his first furlough, after having served for more than thirty years in Burma, he was surprised by the many changes that had taken place in his absence. The sleepy New England towns where Judson had grown up had been totally transformed by the industrial revolution of the early nineteenth century.Unlike Adonirom Judson, missionaries in today's fast-paced, hi-tech world expect things to change while they are away. Nevertheless, most overseas missionaries still struggle with the process that Dan refers to as "learning how to be Americans again."

Good mission agencies, such as International Ministries, understand the importance of setting aside time to help missionaries work through the process of readjusting to their own culture after coming home from the field. To that end, we will be spending most of the remainder of this month preparing for and attending two major training/debriefing activities designed to help us work through the cross-cultural issues involved with reentry into the United States.

Here's our schedule for the next few weeks. Please continue to keep us in your Members of the First Baptist Church in Palisade, Colorado.prayers.Also, we hope you enjoy the enclosed picture of us with the members of the First Baptist Church in Palisade, Colorado.
