"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.” Hosea 11:1

Egypt has Xtreme significance in the Bible, and in our faith history, so it is with great xcitement that American Baptist International Ministries announces the Xtreme Team Mission Adventure Program is sending a group of 7 young adults and leaders to do mission discovery and outreach in Egypt this summer. The training, trip and debriefing of the xtraordinary xperience will run from June 14 through July 13th. Upon completion, the team will share their stories at the American Baptist Women’s Gathering in Columbus, OH from July 11 – 12th.

The Xtreme Team enables young adults to Xperience the adventure of cross-cultural mission service while pushing them out of their comfort zones into an xtraordinary faith walk with God. During their travels, team members deepen their relationship with God while seeking a deeper understanding of how people of other faiths view God, Jesus, and followers of Jesus.  Team members are “Xpected to Xpress” what they have seen and heard when they return to their home churches and regions.

“Egypt will introduce the Xtreme Team to part of the body of Christ that is little known by many American evangelicals.  They will share with and learn from some whose ancestors began following Jesus through Mark’s missionary work in Alexandria a decade or two after Jesus’ resurrection.” explains Reid Trulson, Executive Director, International Ministries.  “They can xpect that their xposures in Egypt will change them, giving them fresh discernment of Jesus’ work in the world and the Spirit’s leading in their lives.”

Members of the 2010 Egypt team are:

Kimberly Cooke    Denver, CO
Hannah Doyle    Concord, NH
Ivan Munoz    Bonita, CA
Dexter Ray    Gladstone, MO

Leaders are:

Walt White    Stockton, CA
Christy Brownell    Syracuse, NY
Scott Smith    Indianapolis, IN
Dan Buttry    Hamtramack, MI (USA support)

“The Xtreme Team Mission Adventure is a unique opportunity for young adults to Xercise their faith as they live one day from the next like Jesus’ disciples - not knowing what they would be doing, where their next meal will come from, or who they might encounter.  While Xperiencing mission in Egypt, they will be Xtending their hands in friendship and service, Xpanding their world view, Xamining their values and Xploring God’s Word and world,” said Angela Sudermann, coordinator of Volunteers in Global Mission for International Ministries.

"The Xtreme Team Xperience has continued with mentoring relationships lasting years after we went to Georgia.  Team members have gone on to be engaged in mission work, both in the U.S. and in other countries.” Remembers Dan Buttry, Xtractor, (missionary leader) Xtreme Team 2005, Republic of Georgia,  “One of our team members returned to Georgia to work as a volunteer for 6 months and is now working as a peace-building missionary for a 3-year term in Kosovo.  I've never had as deep a relationship with emerging leaders as I've had through the Xtreme Team, and the impact continues to ripple through the years and in their lives."

Team members regularly post journals and photos to highlight their Xperiences throughout the trip. Visit www.xtremeteamonline.org to follow the adventures of this year’s team.

The Xtreme Team is open to young adults ages 19 - 29.  More information is available on the Xtreme Team website.
