“The Shard Fence” is a new novel inspired by the Brazilian Baptist work in Brazil. It is the story of a young man from North America and a Brazilian young woman who teach at a church in Belo Horizonte. They tap into their faith in God to fight violence and drugs in their Brazilian favela. Together they learn the truth of Christ’s words, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”
The author, American Baptist pastor Keith Madsen, wrote the book after a mission trip he took to Brazil. Together with others from the First Baptist Church of Portland, OR, Keith visited a favela church where a devoted pastor worked to free people from their slavery to drugs and alcohol. He also toured a Baptist missionary training school supported by our Brazilian partner JAMI.
While in Brazil, the visiting group was hosted by International Ministries missionaries Ann and Bruce Borquist. Ann graciously agreed to read Keith’s rough draft of the novel, correcting phrases that were in Portuguese. 20% of the proceeds from sales of the book, will be given to support the work of JAMI, the international ministries arm of the National Baptist Convention in Brazil.
“The Shard Fence” is available as an e-book at www.amazon.com Additional information about this book or Keith’s other writing, can be found at his website at: www.keithmadsen.com
Keith is presently the associate pastor of the Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung, NJ.
