Are you a physician or surgeon?

Joyramkura Hospital is a 60 bed hospital with one doctor.  The hospital currently serves about 80+ inpatients and 150 or so outpatients per day. In one day, Dr Lucy performed three C-sections. Major diseases seen include malaria, pneumonia, and dysentery. Most surgeries are gyn/ob plus hernias, appendectomies, and other simple surgeries like that. The hospital can provide food, housing and transportation in country (hospital vehicle). This is a great hospital with a great ministry.

The hospital is about five miles south of the Indian border, in sight of the Garo Hills.  About 72 miles north of Dhaka is Mymensingh. About 30 miles north and a bit west of Mymensingh is Haluaghat. About four miles northwest of Haluaghat is Joyramkura Hospital.

There is a paved road, mains electricity and a backup generator. They even have an ultrasound machine! Also, an x-ray, and other diagnostic tools for blood and urine analysis.  There is a paved road the entire way to the hospital now. Volunteer doctors live in a comfortable house that includes an experienced cook for foreigners.  It is a beautiful but remote place. There are fans but no air conditioning.

The hospital was established for the Garo Baptist Fellowship in 1963 by the Australian Baptist Missionary Society.  It does a tremendous service to the least served.  These are the same Garos as American Baptists worked/work with, although these are lowland Garos and ABC worked with the hill Garos, but the same people group.  They are wonderful people, and the staff is tremendously dedicated.  There is a program for training nurses there, which has won some support from the Australian government for their excellent work.

The language spoken at the hospital is Bengali, which is by some counts the fourth largest language in the world!  Translators will be supplied, and many of the staff can communicate in basic English. The Garos also speak Garo (Mundi).  Dr Lucy is completely fluent in English.
