Last month I, LaMon, attended the last half of the annual student work camp. It is one of my favorite activities with the students. Every year the students organize a volunteer work camp to assist in building projects for poor village churches.
This year 60 + students attended the camp in the mountains of northern Thailand. We went to a village of 40 families. 18 of these families are Christian, but they have had no church building. When we left on Sunday, we worshipped in the new building that we had helped to construct.
The students divided into 4 teams for each day’s work. One team, the largest, worked at the construction site. That’s where I spent most of my time. Another team was in charge of visitation. They would visit in the homes of the various villagers with opportunities to encourage Christians and to witness to non-Christians. The third team was in charge of the children’s program that was held each day at an open air site which had been prepared for that and for the evening worship services. The final team was in charge of preparing meals. They were up before dawn every day cooking our breakfast and then worked throughout the day preparing other meals. The villagers provided the rice for all of the meals and they prepared the final celebration meal on Sunday.
Every year I am proud of our students and this year was no exception. They worked hard, they worshipped in a spirit of joy, and they gave a beautiful witness to the love of Christ.
All of you know that the past couple of months have been stressful for both Pat and me. My father passed away in March and Pat’s died this month. Both of us have spent unplanned times in the States during this time.
I want all of you to know how kind and generous International Ministries has been to us during these months. It is truly a Christ-filled organization. And we thank all of you who have prayed for us and the many who have sent us cards and letters. Special thanks also to Lynne Stauffer who has gladly shouldered the responsibility for getting the news about our dads out to you all. She had planned on doing only 4 or 5 newsletters a year, so she has been much busier than she could have imagined when she volunteered for this job.
Remember that if you want to contact us, it is easier to email us directly rather than replying to this newsletter. We can be reached at lamonandpatb@yahoo.com
May God bless you all,
LaMon and Pat
