Churches are invited to rejoice in the great work God is doing in global missions – starting Sept. 1
During the months of September and October, over 4,000 American Baptist International Ministries’ supporting churches are invited to rejoice in the great work God is doing in global missions. The highlight of this celebration in many churches is receiving a special offering for global missions, called The World Mission Offering (WMO). Many churches choose to do this on World Communion Sunday on October 3. However, giving to the WMO is gratefully accepted at any time during September and October and throughout the year.
American Baptists have been sending missionaries and faithfully serving the world’s neediest for nearly 200 years. To help churches learn about the significant work of American Baptists in seven ministry focus areas, International Ministries (IM) has prepared a video, poster, bulletin inserts, worship aids and other materials for churches to use for worship, study and promotional purposes. To see and download these materials, go to www.worldmissionoffering.org. Or you may place a telephone order for the WMO packet by calling 1-800-4JUDSON (1-800-458-3766).
The 2010 theme for WMO is In Haiti and in the World. “We are paying special attention to Haiti because it mirrors the ministries IM missionaries and partners are also doing throughout the world,” commented Dr. Reid Trulson, IM executive director. WMO is more crucial than ever to sustain those ministries “in Haiti and in the world.” “God’s abundant resources are sufficient for all that Jesus asks us to be and do,” he added.
Through WMO giving, churches turn their attention to those in need who are not in the media spotlight. Millions of people in faraway places are in need of basic necessities of life and long for the love of Christ. Funding raised through the World Mission Offering is the primary way of helping these often forgotten people. 100% of gifts to the World Mission Offering in 2010 will go to support Christian partners and projects and IM missionaries the world over.
The WMO goal for 2010 is $2.8 million. WMO is American Baptist International Ministries’ largest and most important annual fundraising initiative for global missions. For more information, please go to the website at www.worldmissionoffering.org
