So, what do you think of what Carol, Carolyn, Dick, Dan & Cori, Lee & Lynn, Manuel, and Kalyn had to say? Ready to join the adventure? Some opportunities are coming up. But first let us update you on what has happened since that Feb journal...

* Workshops: Couples in Los Notros; Evangelism in Lanco and the Southern District; Youth Sexuality in Coronel; Leadership in Curihue; Investigation Methods for ITB Professors
* Preaching: Coronel and Cerro Verde
* Special events: Family Time-Off; San Carlos’ Baptisms; Ordination in Temuco; and Women's Congress

These last five months have been full of workshops, preaching opportunities, and special events. The Lord has blessed us with ministry encounters with our Chilean brothers and sisters in different churches and districts. The wider variety of workshops helps us sharpen our own preparation so we can better help prepare Mision Chilena’s leadership and in turn we learn from the process. We enjoyed them all but most certainly our weekend in Curihue with our Mapuche brothers & sisters who are always eager to learn yet teach us more than they can ever imagine!

Because of leadership changes, we have been dedicating a Sunday a month to the church in Coronel and also some time for workshops. The youth is curious and some biblical and biological information on sexuality was shared to those who are learning how their own bodies are made, how they function, and what are they for. The young couples present left with insights that will enlighten their relationships and make them aware of the importance of deeply rooted biblical principles and faith to avoid pre-marital mistakes. We look fwd to our next visit to Coronel at the same time as we continue to pray for the local leaders and a pastoral family to come to them.

After some workshops in Feb, we took some time off as a family and enjoyed the beauties of Chile. It was refreshing to return to participate in San Carlos’ baptisms. Four brothers and sisters were added to the church by baptism and one new sister by testimony coming from a sister church. Later in Mar we were invited to attend the local ordination of the pastors of the three missions: Mario Ramos (Hay Vida en Jesus El Carmen), Lord Merino (Iglesia Bautista El Salitre), and Jose Beroiza (Luz de Esperanza Padre Las Casas). Their mother church, Iglesia Bautista de Temuco, and their pastor Juan Merino, named these new pastors who have been pastoring these congregations that are all part of Mision Chilena. In attendance were a group of friends from Royesford Baptist Church led by Herb & Bernice Rogers who were visiting and working with Dwight & Barb Bolick in the south.

Barb Bolick worked for more than two years with leaders from the two women’s conventions in Chile to organize the First United Congress of Baptist Women in Chile that was held in Santiago in May. A large group of women from all over Chile came to be empowered to minister in areas such as Poverty, Sexuality, Drugs & Alcohol, Violence, Adolescents’ struggles, and Discrimination. Speakers included our very own ABFMS Global Consultant Lauran Bethell who shared her workshop with her assistant Elizabeth Landau and Margarita Campos pastoring Iglesia Bautista Nueva El Redentor in San Bernardo; World Vision’s Victor Rey; BUA’s Nora Lozano; Rodolfo Jorquera, Carmen Flores, Manuel Valencia, and Alexandra de Quispe, among others who also shared in leading devotions and preached during evening services. We praise the Lord for this unique opportunity of training and for the many ministries that will ripple from this experience.

Before we’ve noticed we are already in July. This month marks our 7th anniversary with the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society... Time has really flown. The Lord has encouraged you to help us get this far. Your prayers, love, support, and financial contributions make it possible. We are deeply grateful to Him for each of you, and to you for your faithfulness and love. Coming up next, the promised opportunities for Fall 2007 and Jan 2008...

Yours because of His love for us,
Mayra and the Bonilla-Giovanetti clan
