A seis meses de nuestra llegada a España, tras veinte cartas online, más de 3,000 kms. recorridos visitando hermanos y hermanas en Almussafes, Dénia, Gandía, La Vall D’Uixó, Madrid, Mislata, Puerto de Sagunto, Quart, Requena, Segorbe, Torrent y Xátiva, mirando y escuchando con atención, seguimos en el camino… conociendo y amando a nuestras nuevas familias de nacionales y de migrantes en España que Dios ha puesto en nuestro camino y cuyo camino se ha cruzado con el nuestro. Juntos, seguimos caminando, como hombres y mujeres que pertenecemos al Camino (Hechos 9.2).

IEB Segorbe y La Vall D’Uixó
Estas amadas congregaciones siguen esperando respuesta para su liderato pastoral local. Mientras llega, continuamos ofreciéndoles apoyo pastoral itinerante. En Segorbe, muchos de los migrantes y nacionales continúan luchando con su precaria inestabilidad laboral y tienen que aprovechar cualquier oportunidad de percibir algún ingreso para sus familias, muchas veces teniendo que negarse la posibilidad de ir a los cultos para tener pan en sus mesas. Quienes logran asistir, ofrecen al Señor sacrificio de alabanza preñada de gratitud. En La Vall D’Uixó, al igual que la vez anterior, vivían el duelo de otro familiar de uno de sus miembros. Cuán importante y qué diferencia hace conocer y estar en el Camino (Juan 14.6, Salmo 37.5), como Carlos compartió al hablar del camino al desierto, al exilio, a Egipto, a Jericó, a Társis, a Damasco y a Belén, al Gólgota y al Padre…

Convicción
Hablando de caminos, el domingo subimos a un tren que estaba en la misma línea que el nuestro pero iba en otra dirección. Afortunadamente nos dimos cuenta a tiempo para cambiarnos al correcto que le seguía en el siguiente sector de la misma línea. ¿Cómo saber que estamos en el camino correcto de la Vida? ¿Cómo llevar a otras personas hacia el Camino? ¿Acaso podemos nosotros convencerlas de que es el correcto?

A principios de diciembre Chile vivió su Teletón como cada año. Este año 2010, que ha sido tan difícil por el terremoto, el incidente con los 33 mineros, el devastador incendio en la cárcel y complicaciones por doquier, Don Francisco dijo: “Me siento frustrado de no haber convencido a la gente en estas horas.” Para bendición de miles de personas beneficiadas por la Teletón, al final de la jornada sobrepasaron su meta para este año. Triste que una persona se sienta responsable de convencer a otra de lo que debe hacer, de lo que le conviene. Como Sus discípulos y discípulas nuestra responsabilidad sigue siendo la de Juan el Bautista, “enderezar el camino al Señor” (Juan 1:23), compartir nuestra fe y convicción con quienes nos rodean, pero sólo el Espíritu Santo “convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio” (Juan 16:8) y “Dios ha dado el crecimiento” (1 Corintios 3:6).

Qué gran estímulo esta fe y convicción a la hora de compartir con las personas participantes de Antiguo Testamento y de Homilética con quienes nos reunimos dos martes al mes. El entusiasmo de nuestros hermanos y hermanas es contagiante. Al final de las sesiones nos sorprendieron con una emotiva tarjeta y regalos para ambientarnos en la Navidad a la española, haciendo palpable el Salmo 126.5-6… Con regocijo recibimos tanto cariño y aprecio a nuestra presencia, el dejar nuestros lugares de origen y continuar en el camino para predicar el Camino. Su gracia sigue siendo suficiente para nosotros…

Gracias por tu apoyo continuo que hace posible que sigamos recorriendo las carreteras españolas en coches, autobuses y trenes para ministrar en congregaciones donde nacionales y migrantes se complementan, para preparar líderes a través de talleres y para trabajar diferentes materiales que compartimos con quienes desean seguir aprendiendo para compartir su fe en el Camino con quienes encuentran en su camino, llenos de convicción y entusiasmo.

Six months down the road of our arrival to Spain, after twenty online journals, more than 3,000 kms. to visit brothers and sisters in Almussafes, Dénia, Gandía, La Vall D’Uixó, Madrid, Mislata, Puerto de Sagunto, Quart, Requena, Segorbe, Torrent, and Xátiva, as we to stop, look, and listen, we continue on the road… knowing and loving our new national and migrant families in Spain that God has placed in our paths and whose journeys have crossed with ours. We journey together, as brothers and sisters that are of the Way (Acts 9.2).

These beloved congregations continue to await reply for their local pastoral leadership. Meanwhile we continue to offer them itinerant pastoral care. In Segorbe, many migrants and nationals continue to struggle with their overwhelming work instability and have to take advantage of any opportunity to earn some coins for their families, often denying themselves attendance to the services to have food on their tables. Those who attend, offer the Lord their worship of sacrifice and gratitude. In La Vall D’Uixó, like last time we were with them, a Church member’s family was grieving the loss of a dear one. How important and what a difference it makes to know and be with the Way (John 14.6, Psalm 37.5), as Carlos shared of the road to the desert, to exile, to Egypt, to Jericho, to Tarshish, to Damascus, and to Bethlehem, to Golgotha, and to the Father…

Conviction
Speaking of ways and roads, on Sunday we boarded a train that was on the same track as ours but heading in a different direction. Fortunately, we noticed it with time to switch to ours that was right behind it in the same line. How to know we are on the right track to Life? How to lead others to the Way? Can we ever convince them it is the right one?

Earlier in December, Chile had their Telethon as they do each year. This 2010, affected with an earthquake, the 33 miners’ rescue, a devastating fire in a prison, and a myriad of challenges, Don Francisco said: “I am frustrated for not being able to convince people at this time.” As a blessing to the many benefitted by the Telethon, at the end of their program they had surpassed their goal. It is sad that someone feels responsible to convince someone else of what should be done, of what is convenient. As Jesus’ disciples our responsibility continues to be the same as John the Baptist, “make straight the way of the LORD” (John 1:23), share our faith and conviction with those around us, but only the Holy Spirit “will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8), and “God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

What an encouragement is this faith and conviction as we share with the participants of the Old Testament and Homiletics leadership workshops and trainings we have twice a month on Tuesdays. The enthusiasm of each brother and sister is contagious. At the end of the sessions they surprised us with a heartwarming card and Spanish Christmas gifts, making Psalm 126.5-6 visible… We received with joy their love and appreciation for our presence, our leaving our places of origin, and as we continue to be on the road to preach of the Way. His grace continues to be sufficient for us…

Thanks for your ongoing support that makes it possible to travel these Spanish roads by car, bus, and train to minister these congregations where nationals and migrants complement each other, to prepare materials for those eager to learn, and to train leaders through the workshops to share with conviction and enthusiasm their faith in the Way with those they find on the road.
