The Prince of Peace

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we can't help but remember that He came as the Prince of Peace. However, as we look around our world today, we see anything but peace! Nations, families, and yes, even churches, are torn by conflict at every turn! What message of encouragement can Christians proclaim at this time?

We have been privileged and blessed in December to have a visit from Pastor Dan Buttry, who led seminars for church leaders (and some dissidents) on peace, reconciliation and the transformation of conflict. Dan is a BIM Global Specialist, on matters of peace and reconciliation. He showed us important insights in how to resolve conflict, and also some methods, which are not so helpful! We praise God that Dan's extensive experience is available to aid our partners around the world!

The Democratic Republic of Congo is still torn by conflict in the east of the country; please pray that a solution will be found that will enable national elections to be held in June; and that those elections will be peaceful and democratic! Our sister church, the Baptist Community of Congo, is also experiencing conflict, as people have differing opinions about the denomination's constitution and bylaws. Please pray that the conflict can be resolved (or transformed) in time for the election of a new general secretary in June.

At the Bible Institute in Kimpese, we have 15 student pastors this year. They have been busy these last couple of months, at the beginning of the rainy season, planting peanuts, soy and corn, to help finance the activities of the Institute.

Thanks so much for your prayers and concern during 2004! May the Lord bless you richly during this Holiday Season, and throughout the New Year 2005!

In Christ,

Wendy
