Exterior of the Jatson Chumig School and Orphanage
In 2009, an exploratory team from the ABC of Massachusetts (TABCOM) went to Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The team visited the Jatson Chumig School & Orphanage, the first ever orphanage in Tibet. It has saved the lives of thousands of Tibetan children who are handicapped, orphaned or from poor, remote areas where an education or vocational training isn't available.
The TABCOM team reviewed a girls dorm that was damaged in an earthquake and later condemned. The residents of that dorm were forced to move into another dorm resulting in 3-4 children sharing a bed. The bed is the only place that these children have to keep any personal belongings. As a result of this trip, the team committed in 2010, that Massachusetts would support a mission project to build a new dorm for the girls.
Another mission trip is planned for April 3 – 16, 2011. Everyone is invited to join the team and discover a life changing experience as you see God’s work in action. The trip begins in mainland China (Shanghai & Nanjing) where citizens have religious freedom now. You'll see some of the work that International Ministries is directly involved with and the partners with whom they work in China. The trip will continue to Lhasa where you will be able to make a positive change as you work with the children in their classrooms and therapy rooms at the Jatson Chumig School & Orphanage. You will see the progress of building a new girls dorm and how this can become a reality within the year. There will also be time to visit some of the cultural sights including the Jokhang Temple, Ganden Monastery, Potala Palace and Norbulinka.
The deadline to participate in the trip is January 30, 2011. For more details and information, please contact Kevin E. Porter at kep@tiac.net or through the TABCOM office at (978) 448-1445. To see a brochure on the trip click here.
During the 2009 trip to Jatson Chumig, the TABCOM mission team learned about the lives of children with handicaps who require physical therapy. These children are challenged to live under conditions where simple first aid could have prevented limb amputations due to infections gone untreated.
The team witnessed the undeniable spirit of God’s children in difficult conditions and how these children are a light even with the challenges they face. These children are God’s creation and they require love and attention as we live out our Christian values. With this mission, TABCOM hopes to have an opportunity to live the Great Commission and to impact a culture at the Top of the World.
The Dorm Project will require $110,000 to complete. From demolition of the condemned dorm, to laying the foundation of the new dorm, building of the walls, doors, windows, roofs and the furnishing of the new facility, you can become individually or collectively involved to make this dream a reality.
