Dear friends of HANDS (Hands Along the Nile Development Services),
You are probably following as closely as we are at HANDS the rapidly developing events in Egypt. We wanted to assure you that we are in touch with many of our partners on the ground in Egypt, who all report that they and the people we serve are alright. They have indicated that in many neighborhoods the sense of lawlessness has decreased over the last few days.
In terms of HANDS’ work in Egypt, we have postponed a training program for young Egyptian entrepreneurs scheduled for this week and are waiting to make a final decision on educational and volunteer trips planned for this spring. We will continue monitoring the situation, both the sense of security on the ground and official travel advisories, and will make program adjustments accordingly. Our commitment to helping individual Egyptians find opportunities for building a better future for their families and their communities is unwavering. We believe the programs we support in healthcare, job-skills training, entrepreneurship, and so many other areas of development will remain critical in the months ahead.
HANDS and our partners in Egypt deeply appreciate your concern and prayers for the people of Egypt: for their current safety concerns and for the challenges they face. You are most welcome to contact us at 703-875-9370 or info@handsalongthenile.org with any questions.
Warm regards,
