A busy summer in Bulgaria

The calendar says we have another month of summer, but... A.J. and Nathan are back in school, and our summer activities are coming to a close. What a fast, exciting summer it has been!

Included in our summer were two Vacation Bible Schools, a week of camp for A.J. and Nathan, a mission team, the arrival of a volunteer who will be with us for several months, and even a short vacation time. The short summer started with the whole family helping with a VBS/English club in Sofia. The five days of fun were organized by another missionary couple at their church. The week was a western ranch themed event, using material from the U.S. which was translated into Bulgarian. Terry was in charge of the crafts, Tom entertained the kids with games, and A.J. and Nathan acted as group leaders taking each of the groups to their assigned activity.

In addition to crafts and games, the kids had English lessons and a Bible story time. Each day started with a time of singing, followed by the different activities, then a time back together to review the day's lesson. Lunch was served each day. Following our week of VBS in Sofia we packed up and headed to Guliantsi for a three day VBS. We were there to help friends Ivan and Teddi. Once again Terry headed up the crafts and Tom tried to keep the kids organized for a time of games.

Ivan started each day telling a story about sharing God's word with others. The story time was followed by crafts and games. Each child was provided a snack and juice before they went home. On the final day we had over 50 children and teens in attendance! It was a lot of work, but well worth it to see the smiles on the children's faces.

In August we had the opportunity to host a group of 12 American Baptist women. Their tour included Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Republic of Georgia. Terry, in addition to planning their itinerary in Bulgaria, took the opportunity to join them for the rest of their tour. She was richly blessed by her time traveling with the group, and Tom used the occasion of their visit to Bulgaria to show them some of his agricultural projects.

At the end of August we were joined by a volunteer from Minnesota, Aaron Prunty, who will be working with us for the next few months. In amongst these activities we were able to squeeze in a wonderful visit with Tom's sister and her husband. We visited several historical places in Bulgaria and showed them the projects Tom has been working with in Northern Bulgaria. It is always great having visits from friends and family. You are all welcome to come any time!!
