Is your Vacation Bible School looking for a mission project the kids can support?  There are lots of great ideas on the International Ministries website.  Just click on PROJECTS at the top to see the whole list.  Here are a few projects we think will be especially good for the kids in your VBS!

$13.33 - Pre-school Lunch Program in Thailand

It’s hard to go to school when your tummy growls!  For 44¢ you can make sure a child in Thailand eats at least once a day.  The House of Blessing in Chiang Mai is a pre-school program especially for the ethnic hill tribal children living in the nearby slums.  Giving the children a nutritious meal helps keep the kids healthy and able to learn in school.

$13.33 will feed all 30 children in the program for one day

$93.33 will feed the children for a whole week

$400 will feed all 30 children every day for a month!

Idea: Make a display of things people buy with their spare change: a newspaper, a soda can, a candy wrapper, a banana - things that would be more than it costs to feed a child for one day.  Use an empty peanut butter jar or lunch bag to collect the offerings.

$27.50 – Clean Water Buckets in the Dominican Republic

Everybody needs clean water to grow big and strong.  Near the sugar cane fields in the Dominican Republic, the river water is very dirty.  But it’s the only source of water for cooking, drinking and taking a bath.  This project will give 200 families a special 5 gallon bucket that will filter the water and make it safe to drink.

$55 will provide 2 water filtration buckets

          $110 will provide 4 buckets

          $275 will provide 10 buckets!

Idea: Get an empty 5 gallon bucket with a lid (like a bucket of paint or spackle).  Cut a hole in the lid and insert a short length of PVC pipe.  The kids can put their offering money in the pipe to start filling the bucket.  Or have separate grades collect their coins in an empty water bottle and then dump the contents into the bucket at the end of VBS.

$50 – Textbooks and Scholarships in Congo

Cassie Clemmer is a missionary kid in the Democratic Republic of Congo and she suggested this mission project!  Cassie works with churches in the USA to provide backpacks full of school supplies to hundreds of students at Sona Bata. But the teachers don’t have any textbooks to teach their classes.

$50 will provide 5 textbooks for teachers

$125 will give 2 kids scholarships to attend school next year

$5250 would pay for shipping of 25 cases of school supplies!

Idea: Create a display for the project using a backpack.  As funds are received, add items to the backpack like a textbook, pens, crayons, paper, a ruler, scissors and pencils.

$70 – Burundi Goats

On the east coast of Africa, is the country of Burundi.  Families there use goat milk to feed their children.  Extra milk is made into butter, cheese, and even yogurt!  But lots of families can’t afford a goat ($50) or the medicine ($20) to keep a goat healthy.

$70 will give a family 1 goat plus medicine

$140 will give 2 families a goat plus medicine

$210 will give 3 families a goat plus medicine

Idea: Create a display for the project by drawing a life size picture of a baby goat.  As money comes in, let the kids color each leg and then up the body to show how much of the goat they can help buy.

$176 – Plant a Family Garden in Chiapas, Mexico

In the mountains of Mexico, a family lives on just $3 a day.  But you can help them plant a garden where families can grow healthy foods.  $176 will give one family some gardening tools, seeds, fencing materials and a water barrel.

Idea: Make a mini garden in a tub of soil using potted herbs and seedlings for lettuce, squash or peppers.  Or make a gardening display with a bag of potting soil, a trowel and hoe, and some seed packets.  Pass a gardening glove for receiving the offering!  Or set up a small wheelbarrow and let the kids toss their coins into it.
