There were 25 women pastors from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Puerto Rico and Cuba that participated in the III Women Pastors’ Retreat in the city of Granada, Nicaragua. We reaffirmed and renewed our pastoral vocation as women pastors in a network of support and pastoral sorority.
The results were magnificent. There was a sense of conviction of being called in three of those present that participated trying to explore their ministerial concerns.
It was decided to continue this effort for 2008 with two events. One will be the IV Women Pastors Retreat that will be held in Chile from the end of February to the beginning of March to celebrate the ordination of the first Chilean Baptist woman pastor, Margarita Campos. This is something that we are very enthusiastic about because we are able to accompany and affirm our colleagues in Chile. There will be a Central America and Caribbean Retreat that will be held in Honduras the first week of August so that we will all be able to gather together again. At this event, we will be affirming a Honduran woman pastor and promoting the participation of all including those who could not be in Chile.
We enjoyed a time of camaraderie and great friendship. The difficulties caused by the initial change of place to El Transito due to a bridge collapse caused by flooding leading to the World Vision retreat center did not in any way detract from our celebration.
We appreciate the efforts of our colleagues in Nicaragua for their support and programming shared in this challenge. Rev. Patricia Castro whose charisma and sharing had a great impact on those that were present on the topic of spirituality in times of crisis.
