Mission Project for AIDS Orphans in China Fully Funded!

What if you could send your child to college for just $750?  That’s unheard of in this country!  Thanks to the generous support of American Baptists, dozens of children in Kindergarten – College who have been orphaned by AIDS are getting an education in China.

More than $29,000 was given this past school year to the “Support of AIDS Orphans in China” mission project.  That exceeds the original $25,000 project goal submitted by Judith Sutterlin, missionary in China.

In the 1990s, many villages in the Henan Province of China fell victim to an illegal blood buying scheme.  Parents, desperate to support their families donated blood.  But poor sanitation exposed them to the HIV virus and AIDS followed.  Dozens and dozens of children in Henan Province were orphaned.

Without parents or grandparents to pay for tuition, clothes, food and school supplies, it is nearly impossible for an orphan to go to school.  Getting an education is an important step in breaking free of the cycle of poverty so typical for orphans.

In 2004, the Amity Foundation (known for printing Bibles in China), began a new program to help send 3 children orphaned by AIDS to school.  By 2010, the program had grown to seventy children!

While fully funded for this past school year, a new one is just about to begin.  A gift of $220 will send a child in Kindergarten through 9th grade to school for a year. $440 covers the cost of one year of high school for a teenager.  And just $750 pays for a year of college!

In addition to paying tuition, your gift provides clothing, food and school supplies.  But most important, it tells the children that they are loved and valued by others.  If you'd like to help fund this project for the 2011-2012 school year, please click here
