¿Qué es una sinagoga sin judíos, una catedral sin católicos, una mezquita sin musulmanes, un palacio sin reyes o un templo sin creyentes? Es un simple edificio, con valor arquitectónico y posibilidades de museo… Como creyentes en Jesucristo somos llamados a vivir, proclamar y ser transformados por La Palabra, que habita en nuestros corazones por Su Espíritu Santo y que no se limita a ningún edificio o lugar.

Un Salón de Conferencias se convierte en Templo
Del 18 al 23 de octubre, el salón de conferencias de un hotel en Gandía se convirtió en templo durante las sesiones del retiro del Ministerio de Evangelismo y Misiones (MEM), así como las de la asamblea anual de la Unión Evangélica Bautista de España (UEBE). En cada ocasión que los hermanos y las hermanas de la UEBE nos reunimos alrededor de la Palabra para estudiarla junto a Stan Slade en el retiro del MEM, que proclamamos la Palabra junto a Juan Manuel Quero y Roberto Dieppa, que participamos de talleres, que alabamos y vivimos en koinonia con invitados especiales como los portugueses Abel Pego y Joao David Santos y las puertorriqueñas Miriam Gutiérrez y Adlin Quiles, que los más de 360 convencionistas nos unimos en un mismo espíritu, el salón de conferencias se convirtió en Templo de Su Espíritu. La iglesia del Señor se compone de personas, no se limita a los edificios o lugares físicos.

Cifras abrumadoras
Leer el periódico puede llegar a deprimirnos si no fuera por la esperanza en Cristo que nos mueve a la acción. El desempleo en España alcanza las cifras del 21.5% en el peor tercer trimestre desde el inicio de la crisis. Son 5,095,200 las personas sin empleo, que día a día luchan por conseguir el pan de cada día para ellas y sus familias. Por otro lado, las cifras que cita la Asociación para la prevención, reinserción y atención de la mujer prostituida (APRAMP) no son para nada alentadoras, siendo que España se sitúa como el país que encabeza la lista de los países de la UE consumidores de prostitución. En medio de tanta desesperanza y desesperación, Jesucristo sigue siendo Mi Esperanza.

Seguimos en el camino
El Señor nos tiene en España para ser sus manos y pies, sus oídos y voz y sobre todo Su corazón. Escuchar los testimonios de participantes del retiro del MEM fue alentador al confirmar vez tras vez la fidelidad del Señor a Su obra y misión y la pasión de sus siervos y siervas para pagar el precio del verdadero discipulado. Escuchar los informes de cada presidente y presidenta de ministerio reafirma que Dios sigue obrando en medio de Su pueblo en España. Escuchar el emotivo testimonio de gratitud de nuestros hermanos de Lorca llegó a las más íntimas fibras del ser de cada participante. Nos animan los esfuerzos del MEM y la UEBE para coordinar “hogares Mateo” como parte de la campaña evangelística de Billy Graham “Mi Esperanza”, esfuerzo del pueblo evangélico protestante de toda España. Por ello sentimos gratitud por cada persona que nos sostiene en oración, con entusiasmo y a través de las ofrendas que hacen posible seguir en el camino y ser partícipes de esta etapa en la historia del pueblo de Dios en España.

Damos gracias
Damos gracias a Dios por hacernos personas que podemos entrar en relación con Él a través de Su hijo Jesucristo y que nos ha dejado al Espíritu Santo para enseñarnos y recordarnos lo que Jesús nos dejó. Damos gracias a Dios por cada ladrillo, cada viga, cada mezcla que somos cada creyente que formamos la Iglesia de Jesucristo que nos reunimos en hogares, en templos o en salones de conferencia para prepararnos para Su misión. Damos gracias a Dios por ti que a través de tu Ofrenda Misionera Mundial y ofrendas asignadas apoyas la misión de Dios alrededor del mundo.

What is a synagogue without Jews, a cathedral without Catholics, a mosque without Muslims, a palace without Kings, or a sanctuary without Believers? It is a simple building, with architectonic value, and possibilities to become a museum… As believers in Jesus Christ we are called to live, proclaim, and be transformed by The Word, that dwells within our hearts in His Holy Spirit and that is not limited by any building or place.

A Conference Room becomes a sanctuary
From October 18 to 23, the conference room of a hotel in Gandía became a sanctuary during the retreat sessions of the Missions and Evangelism Ministry (MEM), as well as the annual session of the Baptist Evangelical Churches of Spain (UEBE, in Spanish). Each time our UEBE brothers and sisters meta round the Word to study with Stan Slade during MEM’s retreat, when we proclaimed the Word with Juan Manuel Quero and Roberto Dieppa, when we participated in workshops, when we praised and lived in koinonia with special guests such as Portuguese Abel Pego and Joao David Santos and Puerto Ricans Miriam Gutiérrez and Adlin Quiles, when the more than 360 attendees met in one spirit, the conference room became a sanctuary of His Spirit. The church of our Lord is made of people, and not limited to buildings or physical places.

Overwhelming numbers
Reading the newspaper can be depressing if it weren’t for the hope in Christ that moves us to action. Unemployment in Spain has reached the 21.5% in its worst trimester since the beginning of the crisis. There are 5,095,200 unemployed people, who day after day seek to earn their daily bread for themselves and their families. On the other hand, the numbers cited by the Association for the prevention, reinsertion, and care of the prostituted woman (APRAMP, in Spanish) are not encouraging at all, as Spain is heading the list of countries in the EU in prostitute consumption. In the midst of so much desperation and hopelessness, Jesus Christ continues to be My Hope.

On the go
The Lord has us in Spain to be His hands and feet, His ears and voice, and mainly His heart. Listening to the witnessing of MEM’s retreat participants was encouraging as we confirm time after time God’s faithfulness to His work and mission and the passion of His servants to pay the price of true discipleship. Listening to each report from presidents of the ministries reaffirms that God is at work with His people in Spain. Listening to the heartwarming testimony of gratitude of our brethren in Lorca reached the most intimate fiber of each participant. We are encouraged with MEM and UEBE’s efforts to coordinate “Matthew homes” as part of the Billy Graham evangelistic campaign “My Hope”, a joint effort of the protestant evangelical body in Spain. Therefore, we are grateful to you for sustaining us in prayer, with encouragement, and offerings that allow us to be on the go, and to participate of this season in the history of God’s people in Spain.

We give thanks
We give thanks to God for making us people who are able to enter into a relationship with Him through His son Jesus Christ and who has left us His Holy Spirit to teach and remind us Jesus’ teachings. We give thanks to God for each brick, each beam, and each mix we are as believers making up the church of Jesus Christ when we meet in homes, in sanctuaries, or in conference rooms to prepare for His mission. We give thanks to God for you who with your World Mission Offering and targeted gifts make it possible to continue God’s mission around the world.
