Rosa is a 36-year-old widow and mother of six. Most Mexican women like Rosa run from the camera. But Rosa has come to Christ, grown in Christ and is ready to change her world with Christ. This due to your gifts which make ministries that empower Rosa possible.
Rosa Núñez Cruz is a 36 year old widow and mother of six. She lives in the small community (population about 4,000) of Pueblo Nuevo Sitalá, in the Simojovel district of the state of Chiapas, Mexico.
Rosa is one of the women being helped by the Antzeti’k Women’s Mayan Crafts Collective, a project supported by Doris and Ricardo Mayol and the Mayan Intercultural Seminary of San Cristóbal de las Casas (also in Chiapas). The Antzeti’k Collective is a holistic development project that incorporates Christian disciple-making, economic advancement and social transformation. Currently, about 80 women belong to the Antzeti’k Collective.
Rosa is an indigenous woman, a member of the Tzeltal people, descended from the ancient Maya of Mesoamerica. Like two-thirds of the indigenous women of Chiapas, Rosa's ability to read or write in Spanish, the national language of Mexico, is limited. This is at least partly because Rosa’s husband severely restricted her contact with the wider world, a situation faced by many indigenous women.
Rosa is a member of the Baptist church of Pueblo Nuevo Sitalá, pastored by Ramón Gutiérrez. Rosa is very excited about the Antzeti’ik Collective and is one of its most creative members, continually working on new designs and techniques. As she hones her skills in traditional embroidery, she is also deepening supportive relationships with other women, learning about the wider world, increasing her household income and growing deeper in her faith in Jesus Christ. Rosa has transmitted her enthusiasm to her 12- and 9-year-old daughters, both of whom have also become members of the Antzeti’k Collective.
Your gifts help to transform the lives of Rosa, her daughters and thousands of women like them around the world. Please give through your church, or online.
