Chuck and Ramona Shawver
Chuck and Ramona
Shawver serve through the Baptist Seminary in Mexico City. Ramona is currently
serving as academic advisor to the seminary's residence students. Chuck
coordinates the pastoral work of students who serve in nearby churches.
The Shawvers are becoming increasingly involved in the various distance
learning programs which serve more than 200 students through regional centers
and extension programs. Chuck also coordinates mission teams from US
churches, and construction projects of seminary related churches. Areas
of ministry include: Mexico City
metropolitan area and rural churches in the states of Mexico, Puebla,
Tlaxcala, Guerrero, Oaxaca,
and Chiapas.
They share these prayer requests:
- Please pray
for Dora and Daniel (her son). Dora and Daniel are members of a small
mission church where one of our students (Ismael) is doing his pastoral
internship on Sundays. Dora is a single mom. Daniel is 14 years old and
has been abusing alcohol and drugs. We were able to get him into a
resident program here in Mexico
City. He has made it through the first month, and
now his mother is supposed to visit him on the weekends for counseling and
reinforcement. She came last weekend--a very frightening ordeal for
her--to come from a small town to Mexico
City--a two or three hour bus ride depending on
traffic, using the subway or buses here in the city, etc. Just pray for
this fragile family--there is a five-year-old little brother, Cristian,
also.
- Please pray
for our urban ministry in 'Chima'--it is a large metropolis in a
very poor part of this big city--about two hours from the seminary by car,
by bus, by subway, by taxi. A number of our residential students
come from this area, and a few are working there for their pastoral
internships. Please pray for wisdom, courage, grace and strength to make
decisions regarding our involvement with churches and ministries in this urban area.
- We ask for
prayer for the future of the buildings of the Baptist Seminary
of Mexico.
- Please pray
for the Alpha and Omega Baptist Church in Yajalon, Chiapas.
This is the 'mother' church in this part of our ministry. The senior
pastor, Jose Sanchez, has started many, many mission churches through the
years. It is just a very important church. Please pray for it to make
good decisions and to honor Jose, and to move forward.
- We just praise God very day for His great love and mercy so present in our brothers and sisters here in Mexico. These are not easy times, but, Christians, both Protestant and Catholic, are banding together to pray and actively seek peaceful solutions to the violence and corruption that is affecting daily lives
