An earthquake with the intensity of 8.7 occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra in nearly the same location as the major one that happened several years ago. News that I have indicates that there have been no reports of intense damage but that traffic jams have occurred with people near the ocean trying to get to higher ground fearing a tsunami. Tsunami warnings have been posted in Thailand, India, and as far away as South Africa. However, scientists are quite sure that a tsunami will not happen due to the fact that this quake was somewhat smaller in intensity and did not make major changes in the ocean floor which precipitated the last earthquake. At this moment, we can confirm that all IM personnel and partner personnel are safe.
