Asia Profile
The formation of what is today known as American Baptist International Ministries began on this continent in 1814, with the appointment of Adoniram and Ann Judson as missionaries to Burma (today known as Myanmar). These former Congregationalists left for India in 1812, only to embrace believer's baptism by immersion during the journey over the ocean. Baptized by British Baptist missionaries upon their arrival, they moved to Burma in 1813. Fellow colleague Luther Rice came back to the U.S. to raise money for their support and help form this mission agency.
Today in Asia, International Ministries serves 37 long-term missionaries and four
development workers, who work with more than 113 partners in 16 countries. Learn more specifically about our work in East Asia and India by visiting a website developed by the area director for that region.
