Dear Family and Friends,
As you probably know, Pat and I are back in the States for a year. We are living in Atlanta when not staying in Alberville, Alabama with Kari and her family or not going on the road for deputation and visitation.
Before we left Thailand, I met individually with each of my student advisees. I told them that I would share pray requests with Christians in the States. I pretty much left it wide open as to what they could request.
During this next year I want to share some of those requests with you. I hope you will join me in continuing to pray for these young college age Christians who are wanting to serve God.
Here are the first two:
1. Chai is the oldest student in the class. He is 25. He is a part of the Lahu ethnic group. He is a Baptist. Chai has had a difficult time growing up. In fact, as a young boy he was almost murdered by a criminal ring seeking insurance money.
Chai asked first that we pray for all of the various Christian denominations in Thailand; especially concerning the need for leaders. Many of the churches are too small and poor to employ fulltime ministers. Secondly, he asked that we pray for all Christian servants (including himself) that they would have the strength to serve God faithfully.
2. Sumali is an Akha Christian. The Akha Baptists are not yet members of the Church of Christ in Thailand where most of our Baptist ethnic groups belong. Sumali comes from a Christian family. She has a heart for orphans and hopes to work in that area when she finishes her education.
She asked that we pray for the church where she has been assigned. It is called Huay Khao. It is an old church with dwindling worship attendance. Pray that God's Spirit will move in that congregation. She also asked that we pray for her future. She wants to study abroad and then return to Thailand with a vision for starting a small hostel for Akha children who are orphaned or need a place to stay for education purposes.
Although Pat and I are in the States, we continue to think of, pray for, and love our students. We ask you to join us and pray today for Chai and Sumali.
Yours in Christ,
LaMon and Pat
