Wiang Mawk – Foggy Village

Wiang Mawk – Foggy Village is where LaMon and three Thai professors from McGilvary went a few weeks ago. We had been invited by the Chinese language Baptist church to come and lead a youth camp for around 60 young people. They were aged from 13 to 18. They were of various ethnic backgrounds: Chinese, Akha, Mong.

Wiang Mawk is a mountain village in the province of Chiang Rai about 5 hours north of Chiang Mai. While the majority of the people in Wiang Mawk and the surrounding villages are not Christian, Wiang Mawk itself has three churches; the Chinese Baptist church the Akha church and a third church connected to a drug rehabilitation center located there.

LaMon's responsibilities for the three nights, two and a half days' camp were to teach three lessons from the Book of Acts and early church history, preach one sermon, and lead an early morning small group devotion time.He was also asked to pray for the students who came forward during the invitation time on Friday evening.

Please pray for two of the students by name. They are May and Ju Ju. (Ju Ju is the girl on the second row in the pink shirt. May is next to her.)They came to see us off after lunch on Sunday and seemed to have been touched by our presence. It was the first time that we had been asked to assist the annual camp, but it will certainly not be the last. We are already looking forward to next year's event.

We wanted to mention LaMon's camp happening as a reminder that as American Baptist missionaries we have opportunities of service even beyond the campus of McGilvary. We rejoice that we can work with the 100+ students at McGilvary as they are preparing for ministry throughout Southeast Asia. Events like Wiang Mawk are wonderful extra blessings.

This is the time of the year when most American Baptist Churches collect their World Mission Offering. This offering is important for the support of all of the missionaries with International Ministries. We highly encourage you to consider giving generously to the 2005 World Mission Offering in one of the following ways:

1. If you attend an American Baptist Church, the best way that you can support LaMon and Pat is by giving to your church's collection of the annual World Mission Offering.

2. If you are not a member of an American Baptist Church, or you prefer to make a direct contribution to LaMon and Pat's ministry, you may send your gift to the following address:

Please enclose a note that indicates your contribution is "For the ongoing support of LaMon and Pat Brown in Thailand".

Finally, we want to encourage you to share this email with your church. Many of the people in the churches we visited did not have email, so they are not receiving these newsletters. However, they want to support us in prayer as well.

May God bless each of you and your churches.

Yours for Christ in Thailand,

LaMon and Pat Brown
