Every year in Thailand, the schools have a program called "wan wai khruu"; the
day when you ‘wai' your teachers. It is a day when the students show respect and honor to their teachers.
At McGilvary, it was one day last month when Pat was home visiting her dad. It is an interesting program – certain to surprise Americans who have never seen one. Each class creates a beautiful decoration out of traditional flowers and candles. These are presented to the head teacher as the representative of all the teachers.
There are also traditional musical instruments played and Thai dances performed. Speeches are given and the students pledge their respect and honor to their teachers.
I recall a few years ago, a colleague telling me that while he appreciated the thought behind the yearly program, he would appreciate even more the students showing respect by actually studying.
I have attached some pictures of the ceremony.
I have recently become the advisor for the fourth year students. The professor who was their advisor just left for further study. Please pray especially for the following: Patapong, Tanarak, Uthit, and Tawin. These four young men are seniors, but they may not graduate this year as they have failed several subjects. Three of them have also had some character issues that need work.
- Pray that they will be committed to Christ, their studies, and the Church.
- Pray for me that I will be a mentor (however late in their college career) who will help them to grow spiritually.
Thanks again for you support – both prayer and financial. As always you may make a contribution to our ministry by going online to www.internationalministries.org.
