Kim Kushner serves in both regional and local ministry projects in Latin America and the Caribbean for American Baptist International Ministries.

For the past two years, Kim’s has lived and served from El Salvador where she partnered with the Baptist Federation of El Salvador (FEBES). In El Salvador, Kim’s local ministries focused on supporting FEBES’ initiatives of empowering youth and women through leadership development. She also assisted churches in exploring economic development and sustainability solutions for social outreach ministries. Finally, Kim provided support to short-term volunteers from the US and Canada who came to serve with FEBES ministries.

At the regional level, Kim has been invited by partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to serve as coordinator of a regional assessment of leadership development through theological education. Her service in El Salvador allowed her to complete an assessment of strengths, challenges, and areas for growth in leadership development within the unique Salvadoran context.

After completing the first regional assessment, Kim has begun a second assessment in collaboration with two Baptist partner conventions in Cuba. Given the rapid pace of church growth in Cuba, assessment of leadership development for new and growing churches is essential. Because of the complexity of residency permits in Cuba, Kim’s ministry base will be Valley Forge, PA and she will travel back and forth to Cuba.

Once the entire series of country assessments have been completed, Kim expects to ultimately organize a regional gathering for theological educators where they will have the opportunity to discuss the trends of the assessment and explore strategic directions for their unique education contexts.
