Training Future Church Leaders

“And what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.” 2 Timothy 2:2


More than six hundred churches but only sixty trained leaders. Four hundred eighty churches but only a handful of trained pastors. Such is the urgent need for trained pastors and church leaders that has been created by the explosive growth of the church in Asia, Africa and South America.


We believe that training and promoting local leaders is essential for healthy, growing churches.


We do not work alone. At the request of Christian partners around the world, International Ministries matches short and long-term missionaries with the training needs of the local area. Our educators teach people using models of training and theological education that best fit the local setting. We work side by side in partnerships that respect local culture and local leadership to achieve our mutual vision of training pastors and lay church leaders.  


More than a quarter of our long-term missionaries are working with partners in 14 countries to train future church leaders. Together they are preparing educational materials and teaching in both formal and nontraditional settings in countries such as Thailand, Mexico, Chile, Zambia, and the Philippines.  


For example, Ann and Bruce Borquist assist JAMI, the international mission agency of the National Baptist Convention of Brazil, to prepare Brazilians for international, cross-cultural mission service.  Glen and Rita Chapman train pastors for rural Congolese churches. Dan and Sarah Chetti serve at the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary in Lebanon to help train leaders for churches in the Middle East and North Africa.
