Abolishing Human Trafficking

Today modern-day slavery (commonly called “human trafficking”) forces millions of people to work against their wills in the U.S. and worldwide. In fact, “trafficking in human beings is the third largest money-making venture in the world after illegal weapons and drugs.” (Source: The Natashas, Inside the New Global Sex Trade, Victor Malarek, 2005). Children, women and men are considered trafficked when they are deceived through fraud, abuse of power or abduction, transported away from their homes and forced to work against their wills for little or no pay while living in inhumane conditions.  Forced and exploitative labor can be found in factory work (sweatshops), the sex industry, restaurant labor, and even domestic service. Our missionaries currently focus on working with at-risk women and children to prevent human trafficking and to minister to victims.
