I am sending you information to update you on our situation as UPOLI and Nicaraguan society.

The situation has greatly improved now that calm and peace have returned. The protests are being carried out peacefully. But UPOLI continues to be occupied by a group, much smaller now, of youths that persist in having it as a bastion of struggle against the government. Now there is much unrest on the part of our workers and students for UPOLI to return to normal. We are taking steps at all levels to accomplish this, but it is not easy.

Once this group of youths return the campus to us, we should begin a period to evaluate the damages since the destruction to classrooms, roofs, equipment, and furniture is immense. There is so much trash. Communications are interrupted and there are many things about which we are still unaware. There is no doubt that we will need solidarity and international support to be able to rehabilitate and return our campus to normal.

Likewise, we will need to recover as a university community from the trauma of violence, which has caused much polarization in UPOLI and throughout Nicaraguan society. There are many psychological and social wounds that have been opened. That will require a process and techniques for healing.

We continue to ask for your prayers and Christian solidarity so that UPOLI also can recover its normalcy.
