The Bitter and the Sweet

“To say goodbye is to die a little” says author Raymond Chandler in his book The Long Goodbye”. From our experience the past few months, we can say that is true.  But, on the other hand, saying “hello” can bring opportunities for new friendships, new growth and new learnings.

We have made the move from Sofia, Bulgaria to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area for the start of Tom’s new job with International Ministries as Director of Global Personnel Services, which began March 1.  With the closing on our new home in Norristown, PA a couple weeks ago, we are beginning to feel a bit more settled and adjusted to this new life on the other side of the ocean.

In his new job, Tom performs various duties to support each IM missionary, including oversight of the medical plan, assistance with budgets, letters to assist with visas when needed, help with training of new missionaries…just to name a few of his duties. For Tom, the primary focus of this new job is to ensure that IM’s global servants have the support necessary to allow them to follow their calling. It has been, and continues to be, a challenge to learn all his responsibilities, but he is blessed to have wonderful colleagues who are providing much guidance and assistance through this process.

Some of you are still sending in support for us and we thank you for that as it is helping to support Terry with some pay for her years of service with International Ministries as she makes the transition into a new role, wherever God leads her.

We want to encourage each of you who have been supporting us financially to continue to support the work of International Ministries! If you want to continue to support Tom in his new, vital role in the home office as support for the missionaries on the field, please let us know and we will work with you to see that your gifts get directed in the correct manner. If you want to move your support to another IM missionary, we would gladly help facilitate that if you have any questions.

As we close out this chapter in our lives, we want to thank each of you for your prayers, cards, letters, and financial support these past 18 years. You made it possible for us to answer God’s calling to international service. We could not have done it without you. We ask for your prayers for us as we continue to follow God’s calling and make this bittersweet transition back to our passport country. It is nice to be closer to our boys and our families, but it was not easy to leave our life and friends in our beloved Bulgaria. It will always be our second home. We are thankful that God has been faithful to us through it all. While these electronic newsletters will end after this one, we would love to stay in touch.

With all our love and gratitude,
Terry and Tom Myers,
along with our sons, A.J. and Nathan
