GoalThe goal of this project is to give Akha students in Thailand the chance for an education and grow in their understanding of God’s role in their lives.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $3,530 annually in order to give Akha children and young adults in Thailand a much-needed education.
DescriptionThe Student Tuition Expense Program (STEP) in Chiang Rai provides assistance to needy children and young people who require help with tuition, educational supplies and uniforms, transportation to school, room and board expenses where appropriate. Formed in 2001, STEP Chiang Rai has addressed the needs of children in northern Thailand, in particular, the Akha, as well as other ethnic minority groups. A screening process determines each student’s family circumstances, number of siblings, financial need, personal life goals, etc. An education creates a foundation on which to build the rest of their lives. Advisors walk beside them to help as they encounter difficulties or temptations. STEP has helped many children in the last 18 years choose to NOT go into prostitution, get involved with drugs or drop-out of school. Ultimately, many students have a goal of helping their parents which has a ripple effect on their families and communities. STEP is offering hope where there is little. Today, STEP-Chiang Rai can count college graduates among those who began with the program as early as elementary school! The project total cost is $10,589 for three years, or $3,530 per year.
Suggested GiftsA gift of $100 would cover transportation for a year. A gift of $150 would pay for school supplies and uniforms. A gift of $500 would pay for a year of dormitory housing for one student. A gift of $1,000 will help a university student for a year.
Prayer RequestsPray that Akha children will have the chance for an education so that their lives will be better. Pray that an education will expand the world view of these young people as they learn what is out there.
